Please forgive me for not knowing how to use this camera (it's the one from work) and not knowing how to make it focus manually. But I just had to share this. I've never seen such a big praying mantis so up close and personal. Scale is difficult to discern from this photo, but it was a little bigger than my hand. Thank God it's on the other side of the window from me. It gives me the jibblies...

Cool. The praying mantis is actually one of the good bugs, but I forget why. I had no idea they ever got that big.
I think they're good because they eat lots of other bugs. Yeah, it looked almost mutantly big to me. It's a mutant! Ah!!! Run for your life!
Ick. I'm sure they don't hurt people (or do they?) but I don't like any kind of bug except maybe ladybugs and rolly polies. Praying Mantis, stay away from me!
You know, in light of that stuff we watched the other day, I retract what I said about the praying mantis. They're gross and evil. And somehow, "as long as my hand" seems a bit tawdry by comparison. But that's good, huh?
Oh my, I have a similar photo that I took yesterday. A praying mantis was hanging out on the window of our fourth-floor conference room. It was huge. Made me think of the Buffy episode, too.
Creepy!
PS And I think your blog is the only one Big-Bold-D has ever commented on. Congratulations. You should get a little certificate or something.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to have a mutantly large praying mantis on the window experience. And, yes, its definitely taken on a whole new meaning after rewatching that Buffy episode.
That was in Westport? Wow. It seems kinda weird to see a mantis in Westport... Cool! Pretty. I like. To heck with Buffy. XD
